About Marlisa Groff Eyre,
owner/instructor CH-Pilates and Wellness

Welcome to Carriage House Pilates & Wellness! We are so happy that you stopped by and we hope to see you in the studio sometime soon. Here’s a little bit about me and how the Carriage House began.
Over 17 years ago, I discovered the work of Pilates through home videos. I would often pop in a 20 minute Pilates workout when my kids were young and squeeze in exercise during nap times. I knew my body responded well to Pilates, but I felt like there must be more to it. I reached out to a local studio in Winchester, at the time “The Fitness Studio: Pilates Method,” to study the greater scope of Jospeh Pilates’ work. During that time, I was teaching and coordinating a music program at Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy and as I began weekly Pilates lessons with Lucille Dowell, I was sparked with a desire to teach what I was learning. I became Lucille and her daughter in law, Michelle’s, first graduating teacher of their comprehensive Pilates training program. I then pursued national Pilates certification and have continued my education through Body Arts and Sciences International, Quantum Pilates, Balanced Body and others. I recently obtained a certificate in “Pilates for Rehabilitation.” I am forever grateful to the late Lucille Dowell and to Michelle Dowell for bringing Pilates to the Winchester area and inspiring me to teach. I began my home studio, Carriage House Pilates in my backyard carriage house with their blessing in 2013.

Since then our studio has grown to provide excellent Pilates instruction for all levels, including comprehensive training for Pilates instructors under the National Certification of Pilates Teacher standards. We relocated to our new studio home in 2018. With flooring milled by hand and a post and beam timber frame barre room, we sought to bring the character and charm of our first carriage house to the new studio. We hope you will come visit us soon!
Beyond the studio, my husband (and hobby sawyer), Chris and I have 5 children, a son in law, and two grandchildren. We are busy creating a full life and enjoying God’s blessings in all of life’s ups and downs.
I have come to view Pilates and it’s connection to the Powerhouse as a metaphor for my spiritual life. Jesus Christ is my powerhouse and it is “in Him, that we live and move and have our being.” Acts 17:28
I am excited to welcome you along on your own Pilates journey as you discover the art of movement.
